Down on the Farm

OH..we're on our way, we're on our way, on our way to Earthway Farms!  We will be heading out for a full day field trip on Friday, May 18th.  The last two weeks we have been reading informational text about farmers and farm animals.  Students were asked to complete a can/have/are map about each and use these facts in their writing.  Students wrote three sentences using correct sentence structure (capital letter, spacing, and punctuation).  Here are a few samples of each topic.

We used all facts we knew and compared two farm animals.  We did one whole group.  The next day students completed a comparison on their own.  See samples below.

Muffins for Moms was held this morning!  What a wonderful start to this special weekend.  I know I am looking forward to my first Mother's Day with Jaxon.  Here are a few students/moms from our class.

Closing Ceremonies

Last Friday PME celebrated the closing ceremonies of our "Summer Olympics".  Students competed in events such as javeline (noodle) throw, soccer, free throw shoot outs, etc.  Each country accumulated points during these events.  Although our class did not medal, we were proud to represent our fine country, the United States. Below is a picture of our class waving our flags!

Ready to show our American pride.

Earth Day

WOW!  We had a busy week filled with Earth Day activities.  We read many books about taking care of the Earth.  We can save energy, save water, plant trees, recycle, and keep it clean!  We sang a song about making the Earth glitter.  Listed below are a couple samples of our writing:

We also made a cute bird craft after we read Baby Bird

In math, we focused on money, time, and 3D shapes.  Below is a link to a great video from You Tube.

Rain, Rain Go Away

This week we learned about rain.  We read several non-fiction titles to learn fun facts about rain.  We  read The Rain Came Down and made a class book.  We learned about the water cycle and how rain evaporates to make clouds (condensation) then rains as precipitation.  Listen to our "Water Cycle" song.  We did an experiment showing the water cycle using water, shaving cream, and food coloring.  Check out the pictures!

We read The Mushroom in the Rain  and talked about setting, characters, beginning, middle, end of the story.  We compared it to another story we read in December, The Mitten.  Ask your child to tell you how they are the same and different.

The specialist teachers (music, gym, art) helped plan a special event for PME.  We will be participating in  "Summer Olympic" games.  Each class had to pick a country to represent.  Our class is the United States of America.  We kicked off this event with a special opening ceremony.  We got to march in a parade, hear information about upcoming events, and see a gymnastics demonstration.  I will keep you updated on any medals earned by our class!

Visitor Day

Thanks to all family members who showed up for Visitor Day!  Your kinderkid appreciates it greatly and so do I.  We had a variety of spring activities.  Students made spring robins.  They were able to show off their skills in math by graphing, subtracting, and finding missing addends.  Students also wrote and read CVC words and books.  Below are some pictures!

Check back Friday for pictures and information about our rainy weather week and our kick-off to the "Summer Olympics"!
