Happy Monday!

What a wonderful Monday!  We had a new friend join our class today from South Dakota.  Her name is Kirsten.  The students are excited to learn more about her and did a great job of making her feel welcome.  We practiced editing sentences using the following marks. (See below.)  You may start to see these symbols used more when your child makes writing mistakes.  They did fantastic finding and fixing the errors in the following sentences.  Here is an example.
In math we reviewed teen numbers and learned a new card game.  The kids used their finger flashes for the teen numbers to help them play "Teen Top-It".  This game is like the card game "War"  but with a ten in front to make teen numbers.  For example, a student might have a 10 and 4.  They would say 10 + 4 is 14.  Their partner would go, then they decide which number is bigger.  That person gets to keep the cards (but not the 10!).  You can practice playing at home.  Here are a few pictures of us playing "Teen Top-It".
